Diagnosis and treatment of dens invaginatus with open apex in a young adult patient by using cone-beam computed tomography and operative microscope.
2021
BACKGROUND: Dens invaginatus is a developmental anomaly that can affect both deciduous and permanent dentition. The anomaly is caused by the invagination of the enamel organ into the dental papilla prior to the calcification of the dental tissues. The treatment option changes according to the classification, from the simple filling of the invaginated enamel area to root canal treatment with or without retrograde surgery, intentional re-implantation, or the extraction of the affected tooth. CASE REPORT: In this study we report a case of a maxillary lateral incisor invaginatus in a young adult patient. The periapical endoral X-ray showed the presence of a periapical radiolucency in tooth 22, …
Effects of minute misregistrations of prefabricated markers for image-guided dental implant surgery: an analytical evaluation
2012
Objectives The goal of the present study was to develop a theoretical analysis of errors in implant position, which can occur owing to minute registration errors of a reference marker in a cone beam computed tomography volume when inserting an implant with a surgical stent. Material and methods A virtual dental-arch model was created using anatomic data derived from the literature. Basic trigonometry was used to compute effects of defined minute registration errors of only voxel size. The errors occurring at the implant's neck and apex both in horizontal as in vertical direction were computed for mean ±95%-confidence intervals of jaw width and length and typical implant lengths (8, 10 and 1…
Validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the orthognathic quality of life questionnaire in patients with dentofacial deformity
2021
Due to the lack of a specific quality of life (QoL) survey on dentofacial deformities (DFD) for Turkish speakers, the present research aimed to perform a translation of the English version of the Orthognathic Quality of Life Questionnaire (OQLQ) into Turkish (the OQLQ-TR) and provide cultural adaptation to the Turkish population. The process of this cross-cultural adaptation followed the six stages given in the guidelines that were proposed by Beaton et al. (2000), which comprised the following: 1) performing the initial translation, 2) synthesizing the translation, 3) performing the back translation, 4) presenting it to the expert committee, and 5) testing the prefinal version. Throughout …
High spatial resolution analysis of the iron oxidation state in silicate glasses using the electron probe
2018
The iron oxidation state in silicate melts is important for understanding their physical properties, although it is most often used to estimate the oxygen fugacity of magmatic systems. Often high spatial resolution analyses are required, yet the available techniques, such as μrXANES and μMössbauer, require synchrotron access. The flank method is an electron probe technique with the potential to measure Fe oxidation state at high spatial resolution but requires careful method development to reduce errors related to sample damage, especially for hydrous glasses. The intensity ratios derived from measurements on the flanks of FeLα and FeLβ X-rays (FeLβf/FeLαf) over a time interval (time-depend…
Coronary artery anomalies: incidence, pathophysiology, clinical relevance and role of diagnostic imaging
2006
Conventional coronary angiography is the gold standard for the diagnosis of coronary artery anomalies. Coronary anomalies are relatively rare findings in patients undergoing conventional coronary angiography for suspected obstructive coronary artery disease. Recently, the increasing performance of diagnostic techniques, such as electron beam tomography (EBT), magnetic resonance (MR) and, more recently, multislice computed tomography (MSCT), has enabled their application to cardiac imaging. MSCT, in particular, has a prominent role in coronary imaging due to its spatial and temporal resolution and three-dimensional capabilities. We report the incidence and pathophysiology of coronary artery …
Mechanism of pulsed electron irradiation of the PLZT X/65/35 ceramics
2005
The comprehensive study of high-current pulsed electron irradiation effect on the structure and lattice dynamics as well as Atomic Force (AFM) and Laser Confocal Scanning microscope (LSCM) surface imaginaries of PLZT 8/65/35 ceramics have been performed. X-ray powder diffraction studies show the transformation of the cubic perovskite Pm-3m (Z = 1) into orthorhombic Pmmm (Z = 1) structure for the sample irradiated by one pulse (dose 6 × 1014 electrons/cm2) and into cubic Pm-3m with increased lattice volume and more ordered structure at irradiating by 10 and 100 pulses (dose 6 × 1015 and 6 × 1016 el/cm2). A consequence, the changes of number, intensity and phonon modes position occur in Raman…

Unraveling the strain state of GaN down to single nanowires
2016
International audience; GaN nanowires (NWs) grown by molecular beam epitaxy are usually assumed free of strain in spite of different individual luminescence signatures. To ascertain this usual assumption, the c/a of a GaN NW assembly has been characterized using both X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy, with scaling the measurement down to the single NW. Free-standing single NWs have been observed free of strain-defined as [c/a = (c/a)(o)]/(c/a)(o)-within the experimental accuracy amounting to 1.25 x 10(-4). However, in the general case, a significant portion of the NWs is coalesced, generating an average tensile strain that can be partly released by detaching the NWs from their substr…
